COSTA MESA, Calif. - November 3, 2003 -- MGE UPS SYSTEMS INC. the technology leader in providing unsurpassed power protection solutions to computer data centers, telecommunications and industrial operations, and Opdex, a global software company that helps corporations optimize existing technology investments, have joined forces to offer Opdex Powersafe™, an enterprise-class power management solution. Powersafe enables users to increase the availability and uptime of mission-critical systems by providing pro-active management capabilities for all uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs) throughout the enterprise directly from their existing CA Unicenter or HP OpenView consoles or in stand-alone mode.
With secure local and remote access, Powersafe software allows users to monitor and control up to 200 different UPS parameters in real-time using Web, PDA, or mobile interfaces in addition to their existing enterprise management systems. The software can monitor an unlimited number of SNMP and serial UPSs across the enterprise. While it includes drivers for all major UPS brands, Powersafe is optimized for operation with MGE single and three-phase UPS products.
"MGE saw a need in the marketplace to provide our customers with the same level of advanced technology in their enterprise power management solution set as we currently offer in our leading-edge UPS products. For too long, IT managers have had to cobble together third party, non-integrated software to manage and control their complete UPS and power infrastructure. Now, through the MGE-OPDEX relationship we are able to offer a software solution that fully integrates with the enterprise system, running completely within the existing console, and providing real-time asset management for MGE hardware as well as most legacy UPS systems that may be deployed on the users' campus. By incorporating seamless integration along with unique features such as automated testing and customized actions within the enterprise management framework, this level of pro-active UPS management secures and protects corporate data assets throughout even the most extensive local or wide area network," explains MGE's director of marketing, Jack Pouchet.
"Tight integration with the system console makes power management a transparent component of the overall enterprise management system," adds Jeffrey Walker, president of Opdex. "Administrators don't need to learn any new routines to manage the power infrastructure of their network. Power equipment can now be managed just like servers."
While integrating tightly with the management console, Powersafe includes a host of advanced power management features including:
- automated and on-command UPS testing to proactively assess equipment status
- comprehensive notification to inform staff of
power events
- automatic discovery and virtual Management Information Base (MIB) support that eliminates the need to manually load UPS information when new devices are added to the network
- single- and multi-phase UPS monitoring to address the full spectrum of UPS technology
- customizable action events to tailor monitoring and control for individual preferences
- real-time monitoring for immediate automated management
- standalone solutions for users who do not have enterprise management software
- centralized event management logs to provide an audit trail of events
Certified by both HP and CA to assure maximum compatibility with their respective enterprise management systems, Powersafe software is available now through MGE's normal sales channels. Opdex will deliver, install and configure Powersafe with enterprise base license prices starting at $5,000 to $15,000 depending upon installation complexity.
As part of the agreement, Opdex will join MGE's Facility Solution Alliance (FSA) that offers completely integrated, bundled power and environmental solutions from the strongest companies in their respective areas to provide customers with a single point of contact for facility design, integration, purchasing, and service. In addition to UPS systems and power management software, mechanical and electrical products and services available through FSA partners include: fuel cells, microturbines, DC power solutions, environmental monitoring, diesel and natural gas generators, battery monitoring, precision air conditioning, transfer switches, Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors (TVSS), Cabling, Low Voltage Switchgear, application integration and site monitoring services.
